Auckland’s Go-To Private Function and Party Band

A private function band is the easiest single decision you can make to turn a good party into a great one. Across 3,000+ shows we’ve played nearly every flavour of private event on offer in Auckland — milestone birthdays, engagement parties, backyard anniversaries, marquee celebrations, festivals, community events, school galas — and the pattern is always the same. The venue doesn’t make the night, the food doesn’t make the night, the speeches certainly don’t make the night. The dance floor makes the night, and a proper live band is how you guarantee a packed one.

Hosts book Hands Off because we make the live-music side of the event completely stress-free. We’re set up, sound-checked, and ready to play well before your first guest arrives — no cables being run during arrival drinks. We coordinate with you or your event manager on the day and adjust our volume, tempo, and setlist to suit your crowd. We read rooms for a living and we know how to keep every generation engaged — from the teenagers at a 21st to the grandparents at a 70th, everyone ends up singing along.

Milestone birthdays that people talk about

30ths, 40ths, 50ths, 60ths, and 70ths are our bread and butter. The brief is always different — a 40th might want 90s indie and 2000s bangers, a 60th probably wants Motown and classic rock, a 70th leans into the 60s and 70s — and we build the setlist around the guest of honour’s era and taste. If there’s a specific birthday song you’d love us to play for the cake cutting, talk to us during the booking call — we can’t promise every request, but we’ll be honest about what’s possible and do our best to make it happen. Tell us the birthday person’s favourite five tracks and we’ll work those into the night wherever we can.

Festivals, community events, and outdoor parties

We regularly play outdoor festivals, summer garden parties, backyard birthdays, marquee events, and community fundraisers across Auckland. For outdoor bookings we need access to mains power and some cover for our equipment — a marquee, canopy, pergola, or even a large gazebo works perfectly. We’ll walk through logistics (power, stage area, weather plan) with you ahead of time so there are no surprises on the day. Our 6,000W PA comfortably fills an outdoor crowd of up to 400 people without any additional hire.

Duo, trio, or full 5-piece — the right party band for your space

A house party for 40 people and a marquee event for 200 need very different setups. Our acoustic duo and trio formats fit into almost any space and are a great match for intimate celebrations, restaurant bookings, and venues with tight noise restrictions. The full 5-piece band shines at bigger parties where there’s a real dance floor and the crowd wants the full experience — drums, bass, guitar, keys, and a vocalist leading from the front. We’ll advise on which format suits your space, guest count, and budget during the quoting call so you’re not paying for a setup bigger than your event actually needs.

What’s included in a private booking

Every Hands Off private function booking includes a professional 6,000W PA system, stage lighting rig, wireless radio mics for speeches and toasts, a curated DJ playlist during our breaks, public liability insurance documentation for your venue, and direct coordination with you (or your event manager) in the lead-up to the day. Got a specific song in mind that’s outside our existing repertoire — a first-dance track for an engagement party, a favourite song for a 50th, a memorial song for an anniversary? Bring it up during the booking call. We can’t guarantee every request, but we’ll be straight about what’s realistic and do our best to make it work.
